In the Kentucky , exams, licensing, and continuing education for real estate agents are governed by the Kentucky Real Estate Commission.

There are two basic real estate licenses in Kentucky, a sales associate's license and a broker's license. Generally, a salesperson's license allows the holder to sell real estate only under the auspices of a licensed broker. (Sales associates licenses are generally what people refer to when they say they have a real estate license.)

Sales Associate's License
All applicants must meet the following requirements:

• 18 years of age.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Six semester credit hours for an accredited college or university OR 96 classroom hours in approved real estate courses.
• If licensed in a third state you must include a license certification listing the state(s) along with your application.

Broker's License
All applicants must meet the following requirements:

• 18 years of age.
• Must have actively been engaged in the real estate business for at least 20 hours per week for a two year period.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 12 semester credit hours for an accredited college or university OR 336 classroom hours in approved real estate courses.
• Criminal background check.
• If licensed in a third state you must include a license certification listing the state(s) along with your application.
